Ever since I was a teenager I can remember Troy Duncan telling me what he thought the weather was gonna do the next few days. He was like the sun coming up.

But no more bow-ties and no more Troy. His time in the sunset has come as he has retired.

Star Wars Turns 30!

Over thirty years ago this week....today actually....the most amazing sci-fi movie in history was introduced into our lives as Star Wars was born! Characters like Luke Skywalker, R2-D2, C-3PO, Chewbacca, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin and even Jar-Jar have since stamped our hearts with great memories and fun.

I am no Star Wars guru (ehemmm Dave Curlee) but I will never forget mom taking me to see this incredible movie 30 years ago as a young lad. We stood in line outside the Gulf Gate Mall movie theater in Houston as the line went around the building and was hundreds of people long!

Generations of kids have come and gone and yet Star Wars remains one of the most loved movie series of all time. In 10 years or so I fully expect my girls to get their first real memory themselves of watching Star Wars for the first time.

Dinner with Shamu!

Shamu dinner, I mean dinner with Shamu, was a real treat this week as the Brady Bunch along with Julie's parents took over the San Antonio area for some family getaway time!

Some people, like Mavs owner Mark Cuban, might claim the Riverwalk is overhyped, over-rated and dirty, but we think otherwise. We've been to many popular vacation spots in the country, but our home Texas flavored town is one of the best!

We visited the zoo, walked to Riverwalk, ate at La Margarita's with the Tercek's, and tore up Sea World by finishing off our visit there with a private "dinner with Shamu" party! What a great time we had. Enjoy the pics and see much more on our website as usual!

Don't forget the Alamo and get yourself to San Antonio soon! It's well worth the price of the meal!

The City of Dallas....What a Choke!

2007 has not been a good year for sports fans in the DFW area. The city that has produced 5 SuperBowl championships and 1 Stanley Cup champion is failing in its quest to become a city of champions.

In the 4 major sports, we only have 6 to go around. Not good. And 2007 is doing all it can to establish Dallas in a whole new light. A year ago I wrote in shock after the Dallas Mavericks choked away their first NBA championship to Miami in 6 games, after being up 2 games to none. I had no idea a year later it would get even worse.

It all started in January as the Cowboys defense and Tony Romo literally dropped the ball in the playoffs, round one.

Then came the Dallas Stars who got booted in the playoffs, for the 3rd year in a row, all 1st rounders.

Finally, came last nights debacle of the NBA best record, #1 seeded Mavs, losing to the #8 seed, "schmoes", Golden State Warriors (who?), getting their hydes tanned by 25 in game six, again in the first round.

Next are the Rangers.....need I say more?

A long sports summer is ahead. I am depressed.

Julie RUNS Like Never Before!

In case you have not noticed, my hot wife is now even hotter as she has been on this fitness kick of late...

Here she is nearing the end of her latest 5k called the Zoo Fun Run in Fort Worth last weekend!

(In case you are hoping....I am down 15lbs myself though I slack off way more than she does....I'll catch up soon!)

Brady and Julie Celebrate 4 Years of Bliss!

It truly freaks me out that Julie and I will begin working on our 5th year of marriage this year, but we will!

What an amazing wife I have and I can only hope she says the same about me...of course, while substituting "wife" with "husband"....

We are already planning our Hawaii vacation for our 5th, but this year we are going to celebrate in style by having dinner on McKinney somewhere, then attending the Mavs playoff game against Golden State tonight and staying at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Dallas afterwords!

Being married is the best thing ever! Single? Get married.

March of Dimes 2007

Thanks to the YSA gang, the AMOM group and employees of Equal Health as we three groups joined with about 7,000 others in the 2007 March of Dimes charity event.

It was a great time for all and together we raised thousands to help fight infant prematurity and infant deaths.

Blog Update Spring 2007

Well, well, well. Can we say "summer is around the corner" or what?
Where is 2007 going in such a rush?

Anyway, life with twin toddlers has been so crazy that the blog thing has just been shoved to the back lately. I do keep up with photos posted on our website, and I will continue to post important happenings in our lives here and the girls blog, but I really want to spend more time working on my book...that is whenever I have time!

Some Things Stay the Same

In a time where it seems everything around us is changing, it's nice here and there to find a place where things have stayed about the same.

Ennis, Texas, former home of my Papa's "farm" is just that place.

I look a step back in time last week on my way to Houston, to drive down Old Telco Road over to 1381 and then on down to drive by the old place.

I nearly choke up writing this. So many memories from my childhood there. So many great times with Papa and Grandma, my cousins, my sister, mom and dad, and my aunts and uncles. Nearly every great Christmas moment is locked away in the walls of that old place too.

Not to mention the tractors, cows, the garden, the ponds, the old VW bugs, and our old go-cart.

There will likely never be a place like that in my life again...that is until we step into eternity.

The farm was about as close as I think I will get and it is sure was nice to see it hasn't changed all that much.

Congrats to Hope & Webster!

We are proud to say congrats to the first YSA (Young Single Adults) class members who found each other at CCC in YSA! What an honor to be a part of God bringing two people together...

We attended their wedding tonight at Fielder Road and they are off on the journey of bliss called marriage...it is bliss.....all the time, right?....ok, maybe not ALL the time....

First Vacation in Years! SKI TRIP 2007

Thanks to the hospitality of my best bud, Clint Locks and his wife Alysa, in Boulder, CO, and some amazing grandparents back here in DFW, Julie and I were able to finally sneak off for a quick 4 day vacation! We escaped to the slopes of Copper Mountain along with partners in crime, Matt and Melaine Sherman for some fun on the slopes!

We endured road closures, 90mph winds, 10inches of snow in one day and much more, along with a worthless Buick rental car!!! Ahhhh!

2007 Fast-Starting Like Mad...Like Usual!

The holidays of 2006 are begining to fade away into the distant past already as 2007 is rocking and rolling for the Speers gang!

Here is the latest:

1. Julie has started a fitness program called SupperMommies and I have started a new fitness program using BodyBugg with 24hr Fitness www.bodybugg.com . (My trainer starts kicking my arse on Tuesday! I need it.....gonna drop 40lbs people....just you all watch.)

2. Grandma Kat turned 84 last weekend! She is trucking right along and still amazes all of us. She might just outlive some of her own great-grandchildren!

3. Business is off and running again this year as we offically launched our health insurance division with Equal Health & Life via www.equalhealth.com . Funny thing is we are going to be one of the top sellers for Standard Life & Insurance Company (www.slaico.com) which has been around since 1888 and is based in all places in Galveston, Texas! They OWN Moody Gardens adn all things Moody - Moody Mansion, etc. Funny how 37 years later in life I now work with a company I never was there after all of those years living and playing in their backyard.....God is good.

4. We started a new equity finance division as well called Equal Access Financial Services. If you are making house payments or have a 401k plan you have got to get this book (Stop Sitting on Your Assets by Marian Snow) and read it. It will change your retirement plans. Anyone can be a millionaire by age 60 easy with this concept. 5. Julie turns 32 this weekend......moving yet another year further from 30!

6. My sister, Becky, turns 33 next week!

7. Julie just got back from a quick 3 day trip to Vegas with Katherine Curlee and my sister! See the photo of them riding the insane 1200ft high ride called INSANITY. From what she says, they were nearly in tears while waiting, but the the ride itself wasn't near as scary. Regardless, they are braver than I. http://www.insanityride.com/

8. Our young singles class at Crossroads is going very well. The first couple to come out of this group gets married next month.....exciting! Will there be more? I bet, but regardless, they are a great group of young people that love God!






9. We had our first snow and ice of the year too! It sure was pretty!

10. Oh yea, in other big news, Bill Parcels has resigned as coach of the Boys after they blew it in Seattle during the playoffs....looks like it is going to be another long off-season as we tryu and figure out who the new coach will be!

2007 DALLAS COWBOYS Prediction

For the record, here is what I think will happen...

Norv Turner and Jason Garrett will take over the team in 2007 and lead the team and star QB Tony Romo to its next SuperBowl appearance!

Turner will retire and Garrett will take over as head coach. He and Romo will help the Boys win TWO more SuperBowl titles - one in 2009 and another in 2011, which will be held at the NEW Texas Stadium in Arlington!

You heard it here folks!

2006 Family Visit to HPU and Brownwood!

Now, Brownwood is not a place normally one thinks of to "get away" from it all during the holidays.....but for us, it was nice to go ANYWHERE, after being locked up in the house all week long with the girls having colds!

We did though, and it was a blast. Just a great, fun way to end one year and get ready for the New Year.

We got to see Clint, Alyssa, Brianna (their 13mth old daughter), and Pat. It was such a fun day that include Underwoods for lunch, touring of the massive HPU campus (sarcassim) and then some farm animal fun!

Dad Turns 37....Girls Turn 14 months!

In many ways my life is flying by....37 years and counting as of today!

For the girls, though, theirs is just getting started, 14 months and counting today.

Today was daddy's day with Sidney and Chloe. I loaded them up, along with our two dogs and headed to the City of Mansfield "Pets Mania" day. Got the boys all registered and sniffed some butts...not me of course...the dogs did.

State Fair of Texas 2006

How can any Texan living in the DFW area, NOT visit the State Fair of Texas every year? Well, we missed last year too! But, no more misses!

What a great tradition. My wife and I had a great discussion about how great it is to live in Texas. Can you imagine singing, "The stars at night, are big and bright! (clap, clap, clap, clap)....deep in the heart of Idaho!"???

Give me a break. We know how to do things right and big in Texas. HUH-HUGE!

BTW - Check out the Ten Commandments stone at the entrance to the Fair....wonder how long that will last....?

Rayfield Wright to Speak at EAH Christmas Bash '06

A month back, I met this incredible Hall of Famer from the 70's in Fort Worth at one of his random appearances. I struck up a conversation with him and his publicist and next thing you know....he agreed to come speak at our annual EAH Christmas Bash this year!

NOTE - From those you non-Cowboys experts.....Rayfield Wright was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame this last summer, along with Troy Aikman and is one of only 6 Cowboys in the Hall! He's one of 200 men in the Hall, out of over 20,000 that have played in the NFL!

He is truly a great man of God and was a great man of football too!

Only 3 Years From The Big 40

In just 5 days, I will be THIS MUCH closer to turning 40! Holy Cow! I will be FORTY in just 3 years!

Beach Getaway a Wave of Fun!

Our first family vacation was a success! It started a little rough as we had to finish packing in the pouring rain. Beck's truck door was left open the entire night as it rained so they were delayed in meeting us (yea, she was a little ticked off at one of her girls!). Plus, we thought we were going to have to turn around and come back home the next morning....but we stuck it out and things went fine. Sidney was having a reaction to the MMR shot she got last week and it gave her a high fever the day we left. She responded and was better on Tuesday morning though....so our plans went forward.

On the way down we stopped at the Sam Houston Statue close to Houston and then went on to near Friendswood to eat dinner at Casa 'Ole of course! Finally, we got to Galveston after a nine hour journey and our beach house was great. Way down the island far away from most activity which was nice. We ate at Marios one day, then Fuddruckers and ended the trip with dinner at the Rainforest Cafe, which was really cool.

We walked down the Sea Wall and we shopped The Strand. Our big thing was going to Moody Gardens and seeing all of the animals they have. Very neat. We drove into Houston Wednesday night to go see the BodyWorlds3 exhibit....which was INSANE!!! Wow. Go see it! It was at the Houston Museum which brought back even more memories for me. http://bodyworlds3.com/

The girls were just troopers then entire week. I mean they were great. They were in perfect moods and a ton of fun. They really love being out and about...thank God!

Of course, we spent lots of time in the sand and sun and what fun that was. The girls just freaked out over the waves and sand.

We built a huge sand castle which brought back so many memories for me of me, beck and mom. I sure thank mom for all of those beach getaways when I was a kid. They are some of my favorite times with her and my sister. I love Galveston and hope to own my own beach house there one day! So much about Galveston is the way it was 30 years ago when we first started going. Yet, so much has changed too.

It's not Cancun...it's just the Gulf Coast. But, it's only a cheap and quick 1 hour Southwest flight away!

I can't wait until we go back next year. We have much more to do and see...
